FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
WHERE DO YOU FLY?
We fly near the city of Sarnano, in the Macerata province, Marche regione, Italy. The main takeoff is located at 1170 meters above sea level in the Sibillini Mountains. It is an East-oriented takeoff, which overlooks the hills and plains towards the Adriatic Sea.
WHEN DO YOU FLY?
Our area is known throughout Europe as a place where it is possible to fly all-year-round (weather permitting). In the 3 warmer seasons, is it generally possible to takeoff from mid-morning and fly until sunset.
AT WHAT HEIGHT DO YOU FLY?
The height difference between takeoff (1170 meters above sea level) and the landing zone is over 700 meters. Often we are able to gain height above the takeoff, allowing a breath-taking panoramic view.
HOW LONG DOES THE FLIGHT LAST?
The thrill “to feel my feet leave the ground” will take about one hour for preparation, pre-flight briefing and flight. The actual flight lasts about 15 minutes.
WHO IS QUALIFIED TO FLY?
Everyone from 0 to 100 years old can try this wonderful experience. Minors must have written parental consent. The only limit is body weight; at least 30 kg, at most 130 kg.
ANY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS NEEDED?
No special athletic requirements are needed. You may need to take a few running steps to collaborate during the takeoff and landing. During the flight, the pilot will take care of everything.
WHAT CLOTHING SHOULD I WEAR?
We recommend wearing mountain boots or trekking shoes, sunglasses and suitable clothing for the season. Remember that even if the ground is hot, while flying we go close to 40 km/hr and we may climb in altitude where the air is cooler. We will provide the helmet for the flight. Absolutely avoid flip-flops!
HOW IS THE PASSENGER POSITIONED?
For paragliders, the passenger is seated in a harness ahead of the pilot. This “front-row-seat” gives a wide panoramic view and the possibility to take pictures during the flight (remember to use a wrist strap for your camera).
For hang gliders, the passenger flies prone, side-by-side with the pilot. This allows you to appreciate flying in the same position as birds do.
WHY DO SOME FLIGHTS LAST LONGER?
Because we do not have motors, we must rely on updrafts to gain altitude. Depending on the weather conditions of the day, we can stay up longer than a simple glide.
WILL I SUFFER FROM VERTIGO?
We can reassure you that, in flight, no one suffers from vertigo. This is because being seated you are not using your sense of balance linked to the ground and you always have the horizon as a reference.
CAN I TAKE THE CONTROLS?
Only in the case of an “educational” tandem flight, with good aerologic conditions, the pilot may decide to allow the student/passenger to take the controls with the scope of teaching turning and piloting maneuvers.
AM I INSURED AGAINST INJURY DURING THE FLIGHT?
As the law requires, each tandem pilot has a liability insurance policy which covers any third party damage, including the passenger. We trust, and insist that the tandem flight will be made in the conditions of maximum safety. Often the only “collateral damage” to the passenger is the desire to fly again.
WHAT ARE THE RISKS?
A tandem flight should not be considered an extreme sport, rather a magnificent experience that everyone can try in security, in good weather conditions, using tested and certified equipment.
Usually the biggest risk that the passengers runs is … liking it too much! Many pilots, who now fly on their own paraglider or hang glider began with a tandem flight as a tourist. They were caught by the passion of flight.
